Road to Hana... Then Hana

On it you drive slow and stop often because some people forget it's a road to somewhere and take photos whilst parked in the middle of nowhere. It's seriously a beauty overload, and this on a day of pouring rain and thick misty cover around many corners - I hope it's sunny, at least clear on the drive back out in six days.

There are so many things to eat on the way from Kahului to Hana - we had cane juice with fresh ginger (refreshing!), banana bread with macadamias and Hawaiian cane sugar and vanilla (rich!), fresh coconut water (not that refreshing!) and coconut ice cream with chile and chocolate (not bad and non dairy!), coconut candy (ubiquitous, nutty and sweet). It made me think about The very good things that can come of a combination of a few fresh and delicious ingredients that grow in similar climes.

Our rental home is secluded Hawaiian paradise movie set gorgeous!! It's in the ridiculous category of dream getaway homes. I write this now on a giant futon with a dozen rearrangeable and enormous Japanese-fabric cushions on a treehouse deck overlooking a lush valley of plants, the ocean at a near distance- 10 minutes by foot. The sort of place a freezing cold, fed up Alaskan conjures in desperate moments of February hope - please god let there be somewhere like this that exists in this world; and let me end up there in March for a week, barbecuing barefoot on the front lawn, showering outside enclosed by a lava wall privacy wall, lounging on a humongous back deck futon listening to waves, wind and a million nighttime crickets.

Pictures of this paradise tomorrow...
